Support for the Dream Act

DREAM Act Poster
My DREAM Act poster is demanding attention from anyone who encounters the poster, but more specifically; viewers who are unsure about this topic, and viewers who support the topic already. For viewers who are unsure about the topic; the poster is helping them lean toward a side, and that side is the supporting side of this topic. The unsure audience is people who know basic knowledge about the cause due to what they hear from others, but there is no concrete knowledge. Due to this, they might oppose the cause because they got the wrong information about it, but by going to the links provided they will see reliable information which can help them change their mind. The design of my poster and the links provided for them will help them make their judgment about the cause; hoping they lean toward the supporting side.  This audience also wouldn’t know how to support the cause if they leaned toward the supporting side, so the poster is providing that help too. For viewers who already support the DREAM Act; the poster is getting their attention and leading them to more information about the topic where they can gain more knowledge about it. The main job my poster is supposed to do is to aware viewers about this topic, motivate them to support this cause, and educate them more about the topic.  The effect of my poster would be to gain more support for the DREAM Act, and make a change in the laws today by increasing our number of voters in favor of this law. Passing the DREAM Act bill would be extremely important because there are thousands of young Latinos trying to be successful, but the law is keeping them from achieving their success. After all, if more successful live in the U.S, the better off the country is.
During the process of making my poster I had to make choices and decisions on what I wanted put, and how I wanted to put it due to how I wanted to approach my viewers.  First of all, I wanted to catch viewers’ attention so I placed what I am demanding for “Support Dream Act Now”, on the very top of the page in huge, bold, black letters with several exclamation marks.  I decided to have a bright red background on the heading since red is an extremely eye catching color which would draw viewers in.  Additionally, I wanted the poster to affect viewers emotionally, so that is the reason why I placed the image of the young girl in her graduation gown getting arrested. Maybe they can relate to this picture, not literally but symbolically. These young Latinos are not criminals, but are getting treated as they were for trying to prosper in life. I wanted to show how all these young Latinos are seeking for success, but the law is preventing them from reaching any of their goals. I also placed the images of the American flag with the hands trying to reach the graduation cap, and diploma to express that all these young Latinos want is an education. That is what we are fighting for; for the success and a better future for these Latinos. Hopefully, these images will help the viewer’s understand more and support our cause because they will see that these young Latinos are just like anyone else in the U.S. who is trying to get an education.  The phrase, “Don’t Hate...Educate!” is there to support the image and emphasize my point to the viewers. At last, I wanted to give the viewer’s something they can take with them, so they can gain more knowledge about the topic. I placed little strips at the bottom of the poster which carry a website where the viewers can visit to learn more about our cause.
